About the author

Lindsay Porter has written more than 50 books and well over 1,000 magazine articles on motoring, and other technical subjects. Lindsay was born in 1949 in the industrial, English, West Midlands, the main home of the British motor industry of the time. He well remembers meeting a bloke on the shop floor at John Thompson Motor Pressings in early 1958, who had spent his life building traditional ladder-frame chassis, shaking a newly pressed floorpan for a yet-to-be-launched new car and saying, "Look 'ow it wobbles -this !!?*!!-thing cor work!" But in fact, the 'Frogeye' Sprite worked rather well didn’t it – and Lindsay eventually wrote a manual showing how to restore them…
Lindsay became a school teacher in 1972 and found his time in the profession deeply rewarding but left in the early '80s, as his writing work began to take off. His first piece of professional writing was carried out in 1979 for DIY Magazine, explaining how he and wife Shan built and extended their own country cottage - the one they still live in today. It was quickly followed by regular articles for Practical Classics Magazine (from issue No. 1) and classic car books and manuals for established publishers.
His MGB Restoration Manual was first published in 1982 and is still in print. It was the first photo-based, step-by-step manual of its type and, having established the genre, Lindsay has since written restoration manuals on most models of classic car..
In 1985, Lindsay launched Porter Publishing Ltd and produced the first commercial range of classic car videos, in association with Castrol, with over 70 titles available. The printed word soon followed and Porter Publishing was commissioned by Fiat, Perkins Engines and Halfords, among others, to produce workshop manuals, including the first all-colour manuals.
Lindsay is still working on classic cars and writing new books on them, as well as updating and republishing several of his older titles. To see what’s coming - Watch This Space!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 February 2016This is a must 2CV instruction manual for serious owners. I successfully used it to permit me to re-wind my gearbox. The pictures and text were easy to follow resulting in being able to mend my 2CV without removing the Engine & Gearbox. I will be consulting this book and using it constantly during maintenance sessions. ( Would very seriously recommend having a copy of the 2CV Haines manual for in depth information.)

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 March 2019I must admit I was somewhat put off by the high price, I shopped around and got it cheaper from an Amazon Market place seller than from Amazon directly. But it is actually worth the money. It's printed in full colour to a high standard. The paper is also very good quality, the paper both feels nice to the touch and the book is very heavy as a result. Don't compare this to a Haynes manual with it's rough blotting paper and muddy looking black and white photos. It's also very well written as all of Porter's books are.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 April 2016Bit pricey but I suppose it is a bit specialist. Very good content.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 November 2018Having just thumbed through the book before starting the restoration I found myself thinking:
"I hadn't thought of that."
"That's useful to know."
"That's a good idea."
It's worth having.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 December 2013Great pictures, excellent colour diagrams and far better than the Haynes manual. (Sorry Haynes) The guy who wrote this book really did restore a 2cv and it showes. Great practicl tips.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST have for 2CV fans
a year ago I bought a 2CV, and even though it's in a good shape, I intend to restore it myself, since the chassis and the suspension I believe, need attention. Since this will cost a bit and even more if the work is done in a shop, I decided to buy this book "How to Restore Citroen 2CV" from Lindsay Porter.
The book is awesome, starting with first chapter focusing on basics safety instructions, followed by ten more chapters focusing in maintenance, engine/transmission repair, brakes, suspension, electrics, body work and so on.
All these info is complemented by hundreds of colourful pictures, detailing the work needed to do. In the end, for the price paid, and the knowledge that I gained by reading this book, along with videos Youtube about the 2CV, I am confident enough to restore my CITRO, saving myself thousands in repairs.
I also have a Haynes (in my opinion NOT as good as this one being reviewed) manual about the 2CV, so these two books are a great help for anyone wanting to take such a task. Buy it, you will not regret!!!!
